DepoBupivacaine - Pacira Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

DepoBupivacaine is formulated with Pacira's DepoFoam^® technology. The DepoFoam technology platform has previously been commercialized in the United States, Europe, and other territories for other medications. Depobupivicaine is a proprietary formulation of a well known medication, bupivicaine, designed to offer benefits of bupivicaine while overcoming many limitations

Bupivacaine:

A short-acting local anesthetic/analgesic
Widely used in the perioperative and post surgical setting
Administered by infiltration around the wound or injection around a nerve for regional block for intra- or postoperative pain control
Provides analgesia for approximately 6-8 hours

DepoBupivacaine is being developed to use a common route of administration, infiltration, while offering the benefit of prolonged postoperative analgesia, making the transition to its use simple and straightforward for our customers.

The use of DepoBupivacaine for postoperative analgesia is anticipated to:

Have a positive impact the management of pain with less opioids
Result in fewer opioid related side effects

By improving pain management during the 72 hours when postsurgical pain is the greatest, it is anticipated that DepoBupivaciane may lead to earlier mobility, and improved outcomes, which may lead to an earlier discharge from the hospital.

Clinical studies are currently underway to evaluate the efficacy, safety, and health economic benefits of DepoBupivacaine.
