The initiation of the ERAS protocols have been utilized in many hospitals nationwide to address the opioid epidemic that is affecting mothers and newborns and the comfort of postpartum women during recovery. Obstetric nurses are well positioned to collaborate with medical and leadership teams to implement these types of protocols. Our esteemed panel discuss nurses’ roles in implementing multimodal approaches supporting enhanced recovery for C-sections that address the concerns of both patients and providers. They explore how successful enhanced recovery after C-section leads to less pain and opioid use, resulting in the ability to discharge mom and baby sooner and better patient outcomes, as well as contemplate the future vision for maternity care.
